Wonder Woman

Un amigo aficionado al comic de superhéroes me propuso dibujar a Wonder Woman.
Aunque desconozco bastante el género, me pareció una propuesta interesante.
Por desgracia no salvé el dibujo en buena calidad, así que volveré a colorearlo a partir del boceto y cuando termine compartiré la nueva versión.

A friend of mine, who likes superheroes comics, suggested me to draw one of his favorite characters, Wonder Woman.
I'm not a big fan of that kind of characters, but found the idea pretty challenging.
Unfortunately, I didn't save the file at a good resolution.
I'll color again the previous sketch to have a better colored version of this work. As soon as a finish the new coloring, I'll share it , so you'll be able to compare it to this one.

Boceto impresionista / Impressionist sketch

Recuperando un poco las ganas de dibujar tras algo más de un mes sin ser capaz de coger un lápiz. Sin embargo, comienzo varias cosas y no termino ninguna. 
 Me gustaría colorear este boceto imitando un poco el estilo impresionista. Sé que es apuntar demasiado alto, así que veremos cómo acaba.

I'm starting to feel like drawing again, after more than one month of inactivity. 
Anyway, I'm working in several things at the same time, but don't finish anything. 
I'll try to color this sketch imitating impressionist style, but well, that isn't easy, so let's see how it'll look at the end.

Moda francesa de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII.
Cuando la falda se podía plegar de esta manera, se trataba de una "robe à la polonaise" (vestido a la polaca), fue muy popular en su tiempo y puede que influyerá en la moda del polisón un siglo más tarde.
Pido disculpas por los errores históricos que pueda haber, no he tomado referencias.

French fashion from 18th. Century (second half).
When the skirt was gathered that way, the outfit was called "robe à la polonaise" (polish style dress). It was pretty popular and it probably influenced the use of bustle one century later.
Sorry for historically inaccurate elements if any; I don't use to take references when drawing ancient fashion costumes.

3 chicas diferentes///3 different girls

A veces practico otros estilos menos realistas, a modo de experimento. Es divertido.
La tercera chica, la de la derecha, es desproporcionadamente delgada y alargada, no me convence.
Sequiré probando.

Sometimes, I draw things in other styles, for instance cartoonish or non realistic, as a proof. It's funny.
The girl on the right is too slim and lanky. I drew her this way on purpose, but it wasn't a good idea. I'll go on trying other things.

Maestro de Ceremonias y Reina de Corazones/Master of Ceremonies and Queen of Hearts.

Hoy comparto otros dos bocetos a lápiz. El primero es "El Maestro de Ceremonias", uno de los protagonistas del comic "El Cazador de Almas" que Ana y Mercedes, del St. Kawaii está publicando, y que dibujé para felicitar a las autoras. Es un trabajo rápido y un tanto descuidado, pero logré terminarlo a tiempo.

Today I'm sharing a couple of pencil sketches. First one is the Master of Ceremonies, one of the main characters in my friends Ana's and Mercedes's (St. Kawaii's) comic "The Soul Chaser". I drew him to wish the authors a happy birthday. It's a fast and careless work, but got to finish it on time.

El otro es una nueva versión de la Reina de Corazones, un primer plano.
The other one is another version of Queen of Hearts, a close-up.

Tom Hiddleston - Loki

Hoy es el cumpleaños de unas buenas amigas y fans de Tom Hiddleston en su interpretación de  Loki, en la película "Los Vengadores". Así que para felicitarlas me pareció adecuado dibujar al actor.
No soy buena retratando. El retrato requiere mucha paciencia y observación. Una pequeña variación puede hacer que el dibujo no se parezca al modelo.
Por suerte, Hiddleston tiene unos rasgos muy característicos, lo que facilita mucho las cosas.
Es un trabajo rápido y algo descuidado, pero pude ofrecerlo a tiempo y parece que ha gustado, que era su razón de ser, así que me doy por satisfecha.

Today's the birthday of two friends of mine, that are very fond on Tom Hiddleston as Loki in "Avengers". That's why I found drawing him  was a nice way to express my best wishes to them.

I'm not goot drawing portaits. You need to be very patient and observant. A little variation and the drawing doesn't look  like the model.

Fortunately, Hiddleston's features are very characteristic and  it made things easier.

This is a fast and a little careless work, but I could offer it in time and my friends liked it, so I'm somehow satisfied.

Hechicera / Witch

Últimamente sólo dibujo fanart, es lo que más me apetece. Pero de vez en cuando practico también otras cosas. Como siempre, sin ninguna línea de apoyo ni planificación (un mal hábito que produce casi todos los fallos de proporciones que suelo tener.)
Empiezo por la cara y a partir de ahí voy dando forma a un personaje que ni yo misma sé quién o qué va a ser hasta que termino.
Esta vez ha surgido del papel una especie de antigua hechicera.

I only draw fanart, latelly. Is what I most feel like drawing. But from time to time, I have some original work to show. 
That's a practice sketch. As always, I don't plan anything previously nor trace any sketch supporting line, that's a bad habit that causes most of my proportion mistakes. The first thing I draw is the face and from there, a figure takes shape in front of me and even I don't know who or what it will become until I finish. 
This time it resulted to be an ancient witch.

Assassin's Creed fanart

Hace exactamente un año, Mintonia pidió como regalo de cumpleaños un dibujo de Ezio, del juego "Assassin's Creed". Yo me ofrecí a complacerla, pero la verdad es que tras un par de intentos fallidos decidí dejarlo para "más adelante"...Y al final, han transcurrido doce meses.
No se parece nada al personaje original, pero espero que a Mintonia, que lo dibuja mucho mejor que yo, le guste.
A excepción del efecto del destello, para el que he utilizado Photoshop, el resto del dibujo está realizado con SAI.

One year ago, Mintonia asked her friends to draw for her Ezio, from the game "Assassin's Creed" as a birthday gift. I liked the callenge and volunteered to do it. After some failed attempts,  I decided to left it and try again later...And so, time passed and I only took the task again twelve months later.

I still don't like it, and I think my Ezio doesn't look at all like the original one, but at least I hope Mintonia likes my version. She draws Ezio far better than me.

Except for the light effect on Ezio's weapon, that was made with Photoshop, I only used SAI.

Este es el boceto previo. Mucho más expresivo, pero con grandes fallos anatómicos en el rostro que corregí después como puede verse en el dibujo final.

This is the previous sketch. It was far more expressive, but the face had some big anatomical mistakes that I corrected in the final version.

¿Extraterrestre? / Alien?

Aquí estoy de nuevo, compartiendo un boceto. Como en otras ocasiones, he cogido el lapiz sin pensar ni planificar nada, pura improvisación. Lo que ha resultado no sé muy bien qué es, si un ser mitológico parecido a la Medusa, pero con tentáculos en la cabeza en lugar de serpientes o un extraterrestre.

I'm here again just to share a sketch. I simply took the pencil and drew something without thinking nor planning. As a result, there you have a strange man. I don't know if he is a kind of male Medusa, but with tentacles on his heads instead of snakes, or if he is an alien.

Rococó

Otro boceto rápido de temática rococó que dibujé casi inconscientemente.
Es una simple práctica con el lápiz.

Proceso de un fanart/Fanart creation steps.

Hoy, para variar, quería mostrar algunos de los distintos pasos por los que ha pasado la ilustración de Prosciutto que puede verse ahora en la página principal de la web. No pretendo dar lecciones a nadie, puesto que yo misma soy una simple aficionada que tiene demasiado que aprender, pero pienso que es divertido ver cómo un dibujo va tomando forma.

Today, as a change, I'd like to show you some "work in process" steps in one of my fanarts. Let's take my last Prosciutto illustration, that you can see finished in the welcome page of my site. I don't intend to act as a teacher, I myself am an amateur who has too much to learn. But I think it's funny to see how a work takes his final look.

Este es el boceto a lápiz. Mis dibujos suelen ser muy sucios. Este no lo he cambiado demasiado, he reducido un poco la cabeza y corregido la cadera. También he rehecho los brazos cuya pose no tenía muy clara.
Lo normal es que el resultado final termine no pareciéndose nada a la idea inicial. Siempre ando corrigiéndolo todo y cambiando de opinión.

This is the previous pencil sketch. My pencil drawings use to be rather dirty. In this case, I just modified some little details. I resized the head, that was a little to big,  made the hips narrower and chose a pose for the arms. Normaly, I'm correcting everything and changing my mind and the final result has anything to do with the first idea.

 

Una vez escaneado el boceto, lo abro en  el programa SAI y creo una capa transparente donde dibujo la línea con la brocha "pen". Utilizo una tableta Wacoom Bamboo.

After scanning the drawing, I opened it with the programm I use to paint, that is called SAI and I created a transparent layer where I drew the line with "pen" brush. I have a Wacoom Bamboo tablet.

Con el mismo programa, en otra capa también transparente, aplico los colores, que en este caso son planos. Suelo abrir una única capa para todo el coloreado. Las líneas del traje están trazadas en una capa diferente con baja opacidad para que el sombreado no impida que se vean.
Continúo el fanart con Photoshop. Introduzco la fuente con el nombre del personaje. He usado un degradado y la he bordeado con un trazo oscuro.

I opened a new transparent layer where I put all the color. I use to create a single layer for the whole coloring. This time I used plane colors only. Prosciutto's suit strips were traced in a different low opacity layer, this way, the shadowing didn't avoid them to be seen. 
I went on with the fanart, but now with Photoshop. I added the character's name. I applied a gradient and bordered the fonts with a dark line.

 

Por último utilizo una textura en tonos marrones y azules en una capa de "luz fuerte" con una opacidad del 18%. Copio la misma textura en otra capa de "color", esta vez al 25% de opacidad (borrándola en las zonas de la piel para que el efecto afecte sólo a la ropa) y por último utilizo una brocha con motivos de hojas en otra capa más, con una opacidad del 45% y que coloco sobre el fondo en blanco y bajo el dibujo.

Y este es el resultado. Todo el proceso me ha llevado unas tres horas. (Soy lenta)

Later, I took a texture in brown and blue tones and pasted it in a "strong light" layer with an opacity of 18%. I duplicated the texture in another "color" layer, now with an opacity of 25%. I deleted it in the skin areas, because I just wanted to get an effect on the clothes. For the background I created a new 45% opacity layer  where I've used a "leaves" brush. I put this layer on the blank background layer and under the line one.

And that's the final result. Everything took me around three hours. I'm rather slow.

Detalle de la cara. Le he dibujado unos labios más gruesos que de costumbre, pero pienso que así está mucho más sexy.
Detail of the face. I drew his lips thicker than usual, but I see him sexier this way.

Cuánto más lo miro más cosas veo que habría que corregir....Mejor no lo miro más.
I'm finding right now lots of things I should correct...Better I don't look at it anymore.

Dificultades / Difficulties

Sigo con la misma "crisis" que hace que no me guste nada de lo que dibujo y que me lleva a retocar y retocar hasta el aburrimiento cualquier cosa porque tengo la sensación de que algo falla, de que nada está en su sitio o es del tamaño correcto, aunque no termino de averiguar qué es  exactamente lo que desentona.

My "crisis" isn't over yet and I still don't like the things I'm drawing these days. I change and change every detail because I feel that something is wrong, but I don't get to know what it is.

He estado trabajando en un nuevo fanart de Risotto. Sé que ni la perspectiva ni la anatomía están bien y el torax debería estar más trabajado, pero he descuidado todo eso porque lo que me ha traído por la calle de la amargura es la cara. La he cambiado doce o trece veces (y seguro que lo volveré a hacer) y sigue sin convencerme.

I was working in another Risotto fanart. I'm aware of  the perspective and anatomy sucking and that the body  could be far better, but I neglected all this because I was obssessed with the face. I modified it twelve or thirteen times, I'm sure I'll do it again because I'm not satisfied with it.

This is the first pencil sketch that I used as a basis.

Tras muchas horas de quebraderos de cabeza, el resultado es este:
After lots of hours and headaches, there you have what I perpetrated:

Si os fijais en la cara, ha variado mucho. Aunque la mirada era más expresiva en el boceto, los ojos debían mirar hacia la otra dirección, ya que se supone que es hacia donde va dirigido el cuchillo.
Pero no sé si es la posición de la nariz o que la inclinación del óvalo de la mejilla izquierda no concuerda con la de esta,  la cosa es que ya no sé cómo arreglarlo.

If you compare them, the face has changed a lot. The gaze was more expressive in the sketch, but  it needed to be changed: I thought that Risotto should be looking at the direction where his knife is aimed to.

I couldn't say what is that fails. It could be the nose position or maybe that the left cheek angle isn't in keeping with the nose inclination...I don't know anymore how to do to correct it.

Creo que para superar estos problemas debería ponerme a copiar rostros, ya sea de fotografías, o del natural. No se me da demasiado bien, pero no veo otra forma de mejorar.

I'm thinking in solutions to overcome these problems. Maybe I should begin to copy people faces, asking friends to pose or using pictures. I don't like to do so, because it's hard and boring, but I guess this is the best way to improve.

Práctica/Practice sketch

Tras unos meses felices en que, independientemente del resultado, disfrutaba dibujando sin más, vuelvo a pasar por un período en que todo lo que sale de mi lápiz me parece fallido. Veo errores graves de proporciones por todos lados y me faltan ideas que hagan que mis dibujos expresen algo.
Estas dudas no son del todo buenas ni malas.
No son buenas porque cuanto más me obsesiono con los errores parece que más tiendo a cometerlos. A veces la falta de confianza parece propiciar los fallos.
Pero tampoco son del todo malas, pues me hacen cuestionarme aún más lo que hago y creo que me ayudan a buscar nuevas formas de intentar mejorar.

Hoy traigo un boceto rápido a lapiz, hecho sin planificar nada, sin pensar y sin ninguna pretensión.
Parece algo molesta...Quizás no encuentra la dirección que tiene anotada en el papel que está leyendo.

Regardless of the results, during the last months I really enjoyed drawing. But now I'm beginning to find that everything I draw is an absolute failure. I see important mistakes in proportions everywhere and I lack of ideas that could give more expressiveness to my works. These hesitations aren't totally good nor bad. They aren't positive because when you lose your self-confidence, the results are even worse. But, on the other hand, more self-criticism will help me to find new ways to improve. Today I'm sharing a fast sketch I drew without any previous idea, intention or aim. Just a practice. She looks a little angry. Maybe she can't find the address written on the paper she's reading.

Darth Maul- (Boceto) - Sketch

Darth Maul es un personaje cuyo aspecto siempre me ha fascinado. No me considero fan de Star Wars, pero reconozco que tengo debilidad por el aprendiz Sith.
Este es un boceto rápido hecho con bolígrafo en un momento de inactividad en el trabajo y coloreado ligeramente con Sai al llegar a casa.

Darth Maul's look fascinated me since the first time I saw him. I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I guess I really love this Sith aprentice. Let me share this fast sketch I made at work, during a moment I had anything to do and was bored. I used a blue pen. Later, at home, I colored it just a little, with Paint tool Sai.

Retratos / Portraits

A veces me entretengo dibujando rostros. Caras de personas que no existen, ya que no utilizo modelo ni fotografía de referencia.
Suelen surgir cuando cojo el lapiz sin pensar.

Sometimes, I amuse myself drawing faces. Portraits of people who don't exist, because I don't use a model nor a picture as a reference. They simply appear when I take the pencil without planning what I'll get as a result.
